The Impacts of Media: A case study of Television news on the Youths of Mardan Area

Abstract

Media reflect our society and has a strong social, cultural and political impact that’s why it is considered as the fourth pillar of the state. Its role depends upon the usage of the media. Furthermore after 1950s the media have different outlets due to the 20th and 21th century technological era. Electronic media is considered as the most viable and respectful media. A lot of program are presenting on daily basis. Our study is only constrained to television news and specific to Mardan youth. 130 questionnaires distributed in the local area. The study reflects or that most of the respondents are watching television news daily 2 to 4 hours. It also indicates that the youth are effected negatively. The view of the respondents mostly depicts the negative impacts such as mentality, behavior and lead to violence due to television news. Most of the youth are not satisfied with the television contents media especially the television should be use according to the uses and gratification concept. Moreover, PEMRA should ensure check and balance on the media outlets to protect youth from violent activities
