Portrayal of Political Leaders in Infotainment Programs on Television and Political Leaders’ Image Formation Among Viewers

Abstract

The current research conducted to check the image of politicians in the eye of viewers because of exposure to political satire programs of private TV channels. To find out the perception of viewers about image of political leaders, survey research tool was used in this study. Data from 320 respondents is collected through a questionnaire. Statistical tool i.e., correlation test is used for data analysis. Overall finding shows that majority of respondents frequently watch infotainment shows of private channels. The findings of this research reveal that overall majority of respondents more prefer to watch private TV News channels’ infotainment shows for entertainment purpose (80%) as compared to watch for the purpose of information (73%). Findings of the study indicated that most of the viewers believe that the lust of wealth exists in politicians. Similarly, significant majority of the viewers (55%) perceive that infotainment programs broadcast more political information as compared to other areas. Finding shows that there is significant correlation between watching frequency and formation of disrespectful image about politician in mind of viewers validating study’s hypothesis more the exposure to private TV channels’ infotainment programs then more the disrespectful image of politicians in the mind of viewers.
